Beware of Emails, calls or texts that ask you for money or gift cards
Remember, no state officers or your clergy will ask you to purchase gift cards. Be careful when opening emails or texts from addresses unknown to you.
If you think you have received a phishing or scam email, you may do the following in Google:
Steps to Report Phishing in Gmail (Computer)
- Open Gmail: Sign in to your Gmail account on a web browser (computer).
- Open the Email: Click on the suspected phishing email to open it.
- Find the More Menu: In the top-right corner of the opened message (next to the Reply arrow), click the three vertical dots (More icon).
- Select "Report phishing": From the dropdown menu, choose the option "Report phishing".
- Confirm: On the next screen, click the blue "Report Phishing Message" button to submit it to Google's security team.
Why Report?
- Reporting helps Google analyze the email and its attachments to improve security measures and protect other users from similar threats.
What if it's on Mobile?
- While the web version offers a more direct "Report phishing" option, on the mobile app, you can tap the three dots and select "Report spam," which still alerts Google.
What to Do Before Reporting
- Do Not Click Links: Avoid clicking any links or downloading attachments in the email.
- Do Not Reply: Do not engage with the sender.
